I stand, looking, All at once, they rush at me, The signs of age, with all its lines, The signs of fear, as far as I can see. I squat, waiting, One by one, they wink at me, The signs of love, so rare a find, The signs of hope, too sparse to see. I sleep, dreaming, Wafting by, they scream at me, The signs, they're all in my mind, Hollering for me to let it be.... I awake, thinking, All around, they bray at me, The signs of life are there to remind, They are not life's guides but life's stories.
